Reviewing Candidate Applications

This week’s tip is on reviewing VISTA candidate applications in the Portal. Before submitting it to the State VISTA Office office, please make sure that the application is complete.

Current address is correct in Basic Information and you know whether or not the applicant is eligible for relocation benefits.

Interests section is complete under Basic Information. Motivation statement is complete and appropriate.

Skills & Experience section is filled in and comprehensive. Education includes all their formal educational experience.

Community service includes any present and past service, including previous AmeriCorps or national service.

You have reviewed the Criminal History Questionnaire and submitted a Criminal History Justification Form if necessary prior to moving application forward to us.

You have reviewed the references and made sure they are not from a family member or friend. If an applicant has told you a reference has submitted answers to the questions they receive and you’re not seeing it, ask the applicant if he/she is checking the box to the reference’s name in their application.
